August 2007
On August 23, 2007, I was doing motos at Straddline ORV park to get fit for Top Gun which was the following weekend. It was close to the end of the day as I started to get tired. There was this step up, double option line on one section of the track. I was hitting it as a transfer triple all day until the last 10 minute moto I went out for. About the 4-5 lap or so my back tire went flat before hitting the triple which off the face, launched my bike super sideways.
I bailed onto the hard pack Straddline dirt, and as a result, I ended up shattering my left ankle, breaking my tibia in 2 places and my fibula in 2 places, dislocating my right shoulder, breaking my shoulderblade, and my humourous. In addition, I stretched/tore my breakial plexus nerve causing my left arm to temporarly paralyze. I was taken to St. Peters after waiting a long and painful 35 minutes for an ambulance at the track.
I spent a week at St. Peters well taken care of, and visited by friends, the Ritcheys, and family. Thanks guys for making me feel at home!! I had a 5 hour surgery immediately the next day on my shoulder/leg. I had a plate, 18 inch rod, and 10 or so screws in my leg/ankle, and in my shoulder I had 2 temporary pins which are now removed.
This is taken the day after surgery... Horray for Morphine!

Gotta wash your hair somehow!!
X-ray pictures...
These were taken about two weeks after the crash. FIRST hard cast! Getting the soft cast off.
Kankle... Purple cast.
UPDATE 12-3-07 looking a lot better!

What a rough trip to recovery Cody. We are real proud of you and thanks so much for sharing.
