Khylar Sizemore 747, April 2007
On April 25th, 2007, Khylar was practicing his starts when he hit a car head on at a blind corner of the dirt road that leads to our home. The force threw him forward, causing the handlebars to rip into the flesh of his upper legs. The doctors called it a "degloving of the thighs". As you can see from the photos there was not much blood. There was no damage to any muscles, nerves, arteries, or bones. There will be extensive scarring, but no other permanent damage to his legs.
Here are the photos from the original accident....
The ambulance came and transported him to Whidbey General Hospital.......
Whidbey General Hospital called to have him air lifted on arrival......
We spent hours in the ER at Harbor View in Seattle. They performed many tests to decide what kind of specialists they would need in the Operating Room. The tests were extremely painfull, but with tons of luck, he only needed a team of plastic surgeons to put his thighs back together from the inside out.
Here are pics 4 hours after the surgery........

We spent 5 days in the hospital. On Friday (our 3rd day) Karen Denham (Skagit Powersports) and Karen Hills (Supercross Flagging Coordinator) organized a visit from Greg Crater and Jerry Lymburner, (Privateer Supercross riders, like you don't know!!!).You guys are the bomb!! Thanks!
The worst part was that the Supercross was set to be in Seattle on that very Saturday after the accident. Unfortunatly he had a perfect view of Qwest Field from his hospital window. He had a perfect view of the pro pits and could even see his friends climbing the steps into the stadium on Sat afternoon. Here are those pics.........

Fortunately he had a team of the best nurses (thanks Justin and Dani) on earth. They actually convinced the Doctors to give Khylar a 3 hour pass, a wheel chair, and a taxi to Qwest Feild, so he could hang with his friends and see his idols race in the Supercross (big time)!
Here is Khylar whooped after getting back to the hospital after Supercross (and believe me Dani was waiting)....

Anyway, they finally let us out of Harbor Veiw, but not before we were able to repack the wounds twice a day to their standards. We had to return to the hospital 9 days later, to see how we had been doing. Here is a pic from that visit (look how good it looks NOW)........
Hey, does that say 747?????

The outcome was that all stitches were removed and Khylar could try and return to normal behavior.

A weeek later, he went from wheel chair.............
to just braces.....................
We will keep you updated, but this is a pic from this morning 5-19-2007. This has been an amazing recovery and we are proud and honored to share this with you.
Update picture from 5-25-2007
Khylar went to Harbor View for his final appointment regarding this injury on May 22, 2007. They gave him the OK to begin racing again in two weeks. So we took him practicing yesterday at our local track in Oak Harbor. Khylar and Josh chased each other around and he was really able to work out some of the stiffness.
